Equity and Engagement Assessment
The cornerstone of our work is the ATW Health Solutions Equity and Engagement Assessment, a pioneering tool implemented in over 200 hospitals. This patented comprehensive assessment examines the culture of safety and system for high reliability within organizations, offering a benchmark by identifying areas for improvement in line with the latest scientific research on patient engagement and health equity in healthcare safety. It serves as a critical resource for healthcare organizations aiming to enhance their delivery systems by focusing on the pillars of safety, reliability, and equity.

As the AHRQ Diagnostic Safety Coordinating Center, we lead initiatives to share best practices and engage hospitals and health systems nationwide, promoting a nationwide advancement towards safer, higher-quality healthcare for all Americans. Our Strategic Approach to Transforming Healthcare
Our collaborative engagements with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on seminal initiatives like the Partnership for Patients (PfP) and the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPI) have underscored our dedication to improving healthcare outcomes and leading large-scale improvement efforts. These initiatives have been crucial in refining patient safety, enhancing the quality of care across the board, and strategically integrating patient voices and programs.
Our role as subcontractors with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Action Networks has enabled us to partake in vital quality and safety improvement efforts that have advanced patient engagement and patient activation within the health system’s delivery. This collaboration has facilitated significant progress in identifying and implementing best practices and evidence-based interventions, advancing patient safety and care quality.
Our technical support work assisting multiple Quality Improvement Network-Quality Improvement Organizations (QIN-QIOs) underscores our commitment to bridging health disparities. Our approach to working with QIN-QIOs highlights our belief in equal healthcare access and quality for all Americans, regardless of economic or geographic status.

ATW Health Solution’s Patient Partner Innovation Community (PPIC) is a national network of over 3,000 patients, providers, volunteers, and healthcare professionals dedicated to improving healthcare for all patient populations. PPIC collects and amplifies patient voices to enhance healthcare quality and safety. It fosters patient collaboration through podcasts, social media groups, monthly digests, and other patient-centered methods.
