Mr. Joseph Gaspero is a visionary and results-driven healthcare executive with extensive health equity, healthcare, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) expertise. He has demonstrated success in delivering insights, strategies, and promotions on health equity and public health outcomes. Joseph is adept at leading, planning, and executing engagement and outreach actions with communities, allies, and partner organizations. He is a health equity subject matter expert, executive, strategist, and health equity researcher. Joseph has spent the last 15 years focusing on research, education, and advocacy for health equity as well as disseminating new and novel strategies for reducing health disparities for marginalized patient communities, including people of color, women, the differently abled, veterans, and the LGBTQ+ community. In 2009, he founded the Center for Healthcare Innovation, a leading 501(c)(3) research and education institute with a mission of reducing health disparities for communities of color communities of color and other marginalized patient groups in the US. . Joseph's work has focused on critical health equity issues, including increasing diversity in clinical trials, understanding how chronic conditions disproportionately impact Black and Brown communities, building diverse, culturally competent teams, understanding how social determinants of health drive health disparities for BIPOC communities, and decreasing medical mistrust in marginalized communities. Mr. Gaspero has extensive health equity thought-leadership experience, having organized and presented at over 75 health equity educational events and conferences and authoring over 20 health equity white papers, industry analyses, and executive summaries. He has been an invited speaker to participate in panels with the U.S. Surgeon General, the Illinois Black legislative caucus, and the Director of the Office of Minority Health at CMS. He recently participated in an inter-organizational longitudinal research project designed to uncover barriers to the participation of African American and Black women in Breast Cancer clinical trials that led to the enrollment of over 5,000 African American women in oncology clinical trials. Joseph has been the lead organizer for one of the country's preeminent health equity and diversity symposia in the U.S. He has also led the creation and deployment of multi-lingual culturally competent healthcare education platforms for marginalized communities. Mr. Gaspero has also led research and educational initiatives to diversify the healthcare workforce, particularly among black and brown physicians and senior executives, to address the discord between healthcare liter demographics in the general US population. Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generatedIn 2021, he was an integral part of a collaboration between CHI, pharma.org, and the United Negro College Fund to orchestrate and design the biopharmaceutical industry's first industry-wide Summit and career fair specifically designed to recruit underrepresented graduate students and postdocs to the biopharmaceutical industry. He's also led educational programming on diversifying healthcare organizations' board rooms and C suite to reduce health disparities. Joseph has also founded and developed a STEWM mentoring program for young women of color to connect with established female healthcare professionals, executives, and key opinion leaders, mentoring over 1,000 girls. He has also led focus groups with underrepresented healthcare professionals to devise new and novel strategies for creative enclosing environments that attract underrepresented talent. Joseph is also a seasoned executive, having founded and scaled a non-profit organization. In addition to his health equity expertise, he has extensive expertise in strategy, operations, marketing, corporate governance, and management. His leadership stems from a wide array of experiences, including serving in the U.S. Air Force in the Middle East in support of 2 foreign wars.
